The festival was launched on 10 September 2024 at the Franco Namibia Cultural Centre in Windhoek. In his speech, Ian Dupont, Deputy Head of Mission of the EU in Namibia, emphasised the importance of the festival: “We are proud to once again host the annual EU Film Festival in Namibia, an important milestone in our TeamEurope cultural cooperation with Namibia. This festival not only generates interest and awareness of European and Namibian films, but also strengthens cooperation between the EU, the Namibian audience and our local partners. The festival is a way to celebrate not only the art of film, but also to build bridges and understanding between different cultures. Not only between the EU and Namibia, but also between different countries around the world.”
The European Film Festival offers a unique opportunity to explore different cultures, life stories and film traditions. The EU and its partners hope that the festival will inspire audiences, stimulate innovation and provide a source of cultural enrichment.
