Premiere of the film "Against the Sands of Time" in Pretoria

On March 27, 2024, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria, in cooperation with Alliance Française in Pretoria, organized a screening of the documentary film "Against the Sands of Time" directed by Marcin Jamkowski and Konstanty Kulik. The film documents the work of Polish archaeologists and conservators at 29 sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, spread over five continents.
Ambassador Adam Burakowski welcomed the invited guests and gave a short speech. He outlined the efforts, merits and achievements of Polish archaeologists, engineers, architects and conservators in saving the most valuable ancient monuments around the world.
The film aroused great interest among viewers, including representatives of the diplomatic corps, DIRCO, representatives of the artistic and academic communities, the Polish community, residents of Pretoria and Johannesburg.
The event took place as part of the Francophonie Festival, which commemorates the establishment of the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF) in 1967. Poland has been an observer member of the OIF since 1997. The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria is invited annually by the Alliance Française to take part in the festival and took part in the event for the seventh time.
As part of the Francophonie Festival, the facility also presented the exhibition "Fryderyk Chopin. Life and creation".
