Premiere of the film "The Peasants" at the 2024 European Film Festival in South Africa

The official opening of the European Film Festival in South Africa took place in Johannesburg on 10 October 2024. The event is organized every year by the Delegation of the European Union, EUNIC and the embassies and cultural institutes of EU countries.
In recent years, countries that are not members of the EU, such as Great Britain, Ukraine and Georgia, have also participated in the festival. The special speech was delivered by EU Ambassador Sandra Kramer. The films were presented in Johannesburg and Cape Town. This year, Poland presented the film "The Peasants" directed by DK Welchman and Hugh Welchman. The screening took place on Saturday, 12.10.2024 in Johannesburg. The film aroused great interest and attracted numerous viewers. In Cape Town, the screening of the film "Chłopi" took place on Sunday, 20.10.2024, at the end of the festival.
The event aims to promote knowledge about Poland, increase the recognition and visibility of our country in the South African media, and also creates an opportunity to disseminate Polish cinematography, outstanding filmmakers and artistic cinema in the international media.
The European Film Festival 2024 is a partnership project of the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of South Africa and 14 European embassies and cultural agencies in the Republic of South Africa: the Embassies of Belgium, Denmark, Georgia, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine and the British Council, the Camoes Institute in Portugal, the French Institute in the Republic of South Africa, the Goethe Institute, the Italian Institute of Culture and Wallonie-Bruxelles International. The festival is organized in cooperation with Cineuropa, Ster Kinekor and The Labia, and is coordinated by Creative WorkZone.
