Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki for El Mundo
17.04.2020
In the newest interview for the Spanish daily newspaper El Mundo published April 17, 2020, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Mateusz Morawiecki emphasizes the importance of European solidarity during the coronavirus outbreak and its negative effects on the slowing down global economy. Below are some meaningful quotations to reflect the interview.
“ (…) The internal contradiction of the Eurozone was revealed in the sovereign debt of Eurozone. Today it is clear that the problem has not been resolved. (…) A situation in which profits are shared, and even some benefit in the Single Market much more than others, while the losses belong to each individual is politically unsustainable and threatens today the Eurozone, and thus the entire EU”.
“(…) I’m far from divination of the end of the Union. Of course all the problems are conspicuous to us – particularisms or some sluggishness in action. But thanks to this, we also understand how valuable the Union can be that work efficiently and in solidarity. I think that the current crisis and the shortcomings we see in the functioning of the EU should preferably be the impulse for us to repair and reform”.
“(…) Relations between partners can be difficult, there are often misunderstandings, but the strategic community of Europe and the USA - and above all the community of Values connecting us - should always be in the first place. I think that our internal misunderstandings are to some extent the essence of the EU - and basically not so much misunderstandings but the ability to overcome them”.
“(…) Poland and Spain have essential role to play”.
