Screening of the film "Siberian Exile" in Johannesburg

The Association of Siberian Deportees in Southern Africa, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria and Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Centre, organized on 24 August 2025 a screening of the Polish film entitled "Siberian Exile" in Johannesburg.
The film which was directed by Janusz Zaorski tells the story of those exiled to Siberia in the 1940s. The story is told from the perspective of young Staszek Dolina, who was sent to the camp with his entire family. A six-year odyssey in extreme conditions, a constant struggle for survival in the face of NKVD surveillance and rampant disease, will force him to reevaluate his life and grow up faster.
The event was moderated by Tali Nates, director of the Holocaust & Genocide Centre in Johannesburg. The commemorative speeches were delivered by the Polish Consul in South Africa, Robert Rusiecki, and the Chairman of the Association of Siberian Deportees in Southern Africa, Stefan Szewczuk.
The film generated great interest and attracted a large audience. After the screening, the guests had the opportunity to discuss the film.
