The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria joins the ceremonial celebrations of Europe Day in South Africa

Europe Day - a celebration of peace and unity - is celebrated every year in the Republic of South Africa by the Member States of the European Union and the EU Delegation in Pretoria.
Europe Day commemorates the anniversary of the historic Schuman Declaration in 1950, in which the French Minister of Foreign Affairs Robert Schuman presented his vision of a new form of political cooperation in Europe, thanks to which war between European nations would become unthinkable. The Schuman Plan is considered to be the beginning of what the European Union is today.
This year's event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, local authorities, business circles and opinion leaders, including the Head of the Mission Jacek Chodorowicz and Consul Robert Rusiecki. Speeches were given by Sandra Kramer, the EU Ambassador to South Africa, and Andries Nel, Deputy Minister for Justice and Constitutional Development of South Africa. Ambassador Kramer emphasized that on this day we celebrate the principles of freedom, democracy, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law.
The participating EU Member States presented their traditional dishes at national stands. At the Polish stand, pierogi and bigos, the pillars of Polish cuisine, enjoyed great interest among the gathered guests.
