The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria takes part in the Diplomatic Fun Fair 2022

On October 22, 2022, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria took part in the Diplomatic Fun Fair, which is regularly organized by the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) in front of the Union Buildings, official seat of the South African government in Pretoria. This year's event was held under the banner of the African Union "Strengthening Resilience in Nutrition and Food Security on the African Continent".
The event attracted thousands of viewers, including residents of the Gauteng province, representatives of the diplomatic corps, local authorities and government, artistic and academic circles. The event was opened by Alderman Peter Sutton, Tshwane City Councilor. The occasional speech was delivered by South African Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Naledi Pandor.
The annual fair, organized by DIRCO since 2006, with a two-year break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, focuses primarily on foreign diplomatic missions. This year's event was attended by approximately 60 diplomatic missions and international organizations, including UN agency.
The Diplomatic Fun Fair is the perfect opportunity for South African citizens, especially primary and secondary school pupils, to learn about the activities of DIRCO and diplomatic missions accredited in South Africa. Embassies have a chance to promote their countries through, among others, art, music and local dishes. The artistic program of the fair also included exhibitions and performances by artists from around the world.
The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria, in cooperation with the Embassy of Ukraine in Pretoria, presented the exhibition "Mom, I don't want war", a joint Polish-Ukrainian project of the Polish State Archives and the initiative "Mom, I See War". The aim of the exhibition is to show the tragedy of war through the eyes of a child by comparing historical and contemporary drawings by the youngest who lived and grew up during the war. The exhibition was visited by several hundred people, mainly peers of Ukrainian children - authors of drawings about the war currently taking place in Ukraine.
The Embassy of the Republic of Poland also promoted knowledge about Poland, its history, tradition and culture, and presented promotional materials about Poland. The "Not - a - maps" of Poland and the publications "About Poland" prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were very popular among visitors.
