The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria takes part in the European Film Festival 2023 in Zambia

The Delegation of the European Union in Lusaka, in cooperation with the EU Member States, organized the European Film Festival in Zambia. The European Film Festival is one of the most important cultural events in Zambia and is always very popular. The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria took part in this prestigious event for the first time. Eight EU countries: the Czech Republic, Ireland, Finland, France, Germany, Poland, Sweden and Italy took part in this year's edition of the festival.

European Film Festival 2023 in Zambia

The ceremonial opening of the festival took place on May 11, 2023. The guest of honour of the event was the Minister of Youth Sports and Arts of Zambia, Elvis Nkandu. The festival will last until May 24, 2023.

Poland presented a comedy-drama from 2021 entitled "In-laws" directed by Jakub Michalczuk. The film was presented on May 12, 2023 at the Zambian-Italian Cultural Centre in Lusaka. The event was attended by the Consul of the Republic of Poland in South Africa, Robert Rusiecki, and the EU Ambassador to Zambia, Jacek Jankowski. Among the numerous audience there were, among others, Turkish Ambassador to Zambia Istem Cırcıroğlu and Polish Honorary Consul in Zambia Maria Rozalia Ogonowska-Wiśniewska. Consul of the Republic of Poland, Robert Rusiecki, gave an occasional speech in which he told about the achievements of Polish filmmakers and Polish cinematography.

The Festival of European Films is a rare opportunity for Poland to present outstanding Polish artists and their works, as well as to promote knowledge about Poland. The festival also creates a solid basis for intercultural exchange.
