04.04.2024
A webinar devoted to the Katyn Massacre took place on 4 April 2024. The event was organized by the Holocaust and Genocide Centre in Cape Town in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria, the Katyn Families of Jewish Origin Foundation, and the Holocaust and Genocide Centres in Johannesburg and Durban.
The webinar was dedicated to the memory of Jewish and non-Jewish officers murdered by the Soviets in Katyn and other places of mass murder, as well as to disseminate knowledge about these dramatic events to the South African public. Among the nearly 22 thousand Polish citizens, victims of the Katyn Massacre, over 400 people were of Jewish origin. The event was moderated by director Jakub Nowakowski (formerly director of the Galicia Jewish Museum in Krakow). The webinar was attended by Ambassador Adam Burakowski, Luc Albiński (co-founder and president of the board of the Foundation of Katyn Families of Jewish Origin) and Giora Bar-Nir, whose father was murdered in Katyn. The event also presented the activities of the Foundation of Katyn Families of Jewish Origin.
