The Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment was nominated as the Chair of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention as a representative of the region of Central and Eastern European countries. The relevant diplomatic note was transmitted on 8 May 2024 by the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland in Geneva to the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions.

The European Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA) entered into force on 23 May 2024. This act aims to ensure a stable, secure, and sustainable supply of critical raw materials for the EU industry. Safe access to critical raw materials is essential for strategic sectors, including clean energy technologies and the digital, defence, and aerospace industries.

Twenty years ago, we decided to join the EU, a community that shares our values, including our concern for the environment and the fate of our planet. This decision has led to significant positive changes in our environment and our lives. These changes, which we should be proud of, have become an integral part of our everyday life, making it difficult to imagine life without them. As we mark the anniversary of Poland's accession to the European Union, let us not only remember these changes but also celebrate our achievements together!

Poland's 23 national parks have a new face. Their business cards include modern websites and the so-called Main Gate of the Polish National Parks, a website showing the natural and cultural heritage of these most valuable areas.

The World Bank is supporting the development of the 'Clean Air' Programme. On 18 April 2024, Poland finalised a loan agreement with the World Bank, which means an injection of EUR 250 million into the state budget and further advisory support from World Bank experts for the 'Clean Air' Priority Programme (PPCP).

'We must be cautious and effectively identify and eliminate all potential threats to energy security. Resilience against sabotage of critical infrastructure is currently one of the priority issues, also in Poland,' said Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Miłosz Motyka during the conference 'The Baltic Sea High Level Energy Security Meeting.'

Everyone cares that Poland's first nuclear power plant is built on time - this is what Paulina Hennig-Kloska discussed with Patrick Fragman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Westinghouse Electric Company, the supplier of US technology for Poland's first nuclear power plant. The meeting took place on 10 April 2024 at the ministry's headquarters.

The future of Poland's nuclear power industry, the potential of the newly opened Regional Clean Energy Training Center, and further cooperation between Poland and the US in the field of energy were discussed by Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Miłosz Motyka and Dr Michael Goff – Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy at the US Department of Energy, one of the two most important US nuclear officials. The bilateral meeting took place during the grand opening of the Center mentioned above on 3 April 2024 within the walls of the Warsaw University of Technology.

Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Miłosz Motyka, US Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski and Michael Goff of the US Department of Energy officially inaugurated the Polish-American Regional Clean Energy Training Center (CETC). On 3 April 2024, the Warsaw University of Technology held an inaugural nuclear training session. The opening was also attended by the Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology, Professor Krzysztof Zaremba, the President of the State Atomic Energy Agency, Andrzej Głowacki, and the Director General of the Chamber of Commerce for Energy and Environmental Protection, Bogdan Pilch.

Joint action on energy security, as well as the restoration of Ukraine's natural resources and elements of its flora and fauna, and the issue of starting negotiations on a bilateral agreement on environmental impact assessments in a transboundary context were the topics of talks between Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska, Deputy Ministers Mikołaj Dorożała and Maciej Bando with the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources and the Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine. The agreement on Polish-Ukrainian cooperation in the field of energy (the so-called Memorandum of Understanding) was signed during meetings with representatives of the Ukrainian side on 28 March 2024 at the Ministry's headquarters.
