Polish-serbian talks

On 26 January 2022, Mr. Krzysztof Ciecióra, Undersecretary of State, met with a delegation of the Republic of Serbia, specifically representing the Parliamentary Group for Friendship with Poland of the Skupshtina Assembly, headed by Mr. Veroljub Arsić. The meeting was attended by experts of the MARD, the Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture and the General Veterinary Inspectorate.

The meeting was organised on the initiative of Serbia. It addressed the possibilities of the further development of bilateral cooperation the field of agriculture.

Areas of cooperation

The talks concerned the sales of Polish agri-food products on the Serbian market and Poland’s support in the accession negotiations carried out by the Republic of Serbia, particularly, with regard to agricultural issues. Poland also presented information on the National Strategic Plan.

The present situation and the prospects for development

The Parties were pleased to note a significant increase in the Polish-Serbian trade in agri-food products. Deputy Minister Ciecióra provided information on Poland’s actions to expand the trade with the Republic of Serbia with Polish heat-processed pork products.

Mr. Arsić, the head of the delegation, stressed that Poland was one of the largest partners of Serbia in terms of the volume and value of imports of agri-food products. He undertook to request the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management to resolve the problem of the absence of consent to imports of processed pork products from Poland.

Declarations

Poland declared its readiness to share with Serbia its experiences in the scope of accession negotiations, the use of pre-accession funds, subsequently the use of EU funds, too, and its expert knowledge in the context of the implementation of Twinning projects for the agricultural sector of the Republic of Serbia.

Both Parties stressed their will to intensify their cooperation and also to engage in a further exchange of information, knowledge and good practices in the field of agriculture.

Dariusz Olkiweicz Deputy President and Emilia Godlewska Deputy Director of the Analysis and Reporting Department were the representatives of the Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture at the meeting.
