Polish apples in Brussels

On 27th January 2025, as part of promotional activities coinciding with Poland's Presidency of the Council of the EU, a promotion of Polish apples with Protected Geographical Indication took place in Brussels. Grójec apples and apple-stuffed pastry were distributed for tasting.
The culminating part of the event in the atrium of the “Justus Lipsius” building – the headquarters of the EU Council – was attended by, among others: Czesław Siekierski – Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka – Undersecretary of State in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Adam Nowak – Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and Leszek Iwaniuk – KOWR Deputy Director General.
In total, 750 kg of apples and approximately 1,000 cakes were distributed at the EU Council headquarters among visitors to the Justus Lipsius building and 1,750 kg of apples were distributed to passers-by in selected locations in Brussels.
During Poland's EU Presidency, Polish apples will serve as a unique ambassador for our agriculture. Poland is Europe's leading apple producer, exporting to markets across the European Union, as well as to countries as far away as India, Kazakhstan, Colombia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates.
Apple production in Poland is impressive:
- 150,000 hectares of apple orchards (the most in the European Union),
- 80,500 orchards,
- Annual apple production averages 3.5 million tonnes.
- Exports in 2023 are expected to reach 817,000 tonnes.
