National Support Centre for Agriculture

We exercise ownership supervision over the activities of 31 companies breeding crops and farm animals of particular importance to the national economy. These entities play a key role in creating and disseminating biological progress in Polish agriculture. Due to the direction of breeding and the type of breeding work carried out, three groups of companies can be distinguished: plant breeding companies – 1, animal breeding companies – 17, horse studs and stallion depots – 13.

Companies breeding crops collect the most valuable genetic material of vegetables, flowers and decorative plants.

We conduct and support promotional, informational, educational and cultural activities concerning, among others, the dissemination of biological progress in agriculture in the fi eld of crop and livestock breeding.

In livestock breeding companies, horse studs and stallion depots, breeding material is produced based on breeding programmes for the improvement of cattle, pigs, sheep and horses.

354 varieties of vegetables and 230 varieties of flowers are offered to farmers by PlantiCo – plant breeding and seed horticulture Zielonki.

Our companies breed eight horse breeds in order to improve the most valuable genetic material for national breeding needs and to preserve native breeds.

Companies supervised by KOWR keep more than 21.3 thousand dairy cattle, whose average annual milk productivity exceeds 12,000 kg, i.e. it is approx. 40% higher than the national average productivity of dairy herds.
