Trade mission in Cairo: grain exports from Poland to the Egyptian market

Polish companies in the grain and milling sectors are taking another step towards returning to the strategic Egyptian market. The trade mission organized by KOWR in Cairo provided an opportunity to establish key contacts and discuss supply diversification for one of the world's largest wheat importers.
Joint initiative of KOWR and the Embassy in Cairo
From June 23-25, 2026, the National Support Center for Agriculture, in cooperation with the Polish Embassy in Cairo, organized a trade mission for grain and milling sector companies to Egypt.
Participating in the mission were Małgorzata Gromadzka, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and Magdalena Makowska, Chief Inspector of Plant Health and Seed Inspection.
Minister Gromadzka's visit to Cairo was aimed at supporting Polish agri-food companies interested in the Egyptian market, particularly those representing the grain and grain mill products sector. The Polish delegation met with representatives of the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, the Mostakbal Misr agency – the largest state-owned grain importer, and private importers of grain and grain mill products.
Egypt as a Strategic Economic Partner
Egypt is the world's largest wheat importer, importing 12-13 million tons of wheat annually. Currently, wheat is supplied from Russia and Ukraine, among others. The authorities are interested in diversifying supplies and importing from other countries, including Poland. The KOWR mission aimed to establish direct bilateral contacts between parties involved in the grain and grain mill products trade in both countries. Currently, grain exports from Poland to Egypt are suspended, and Poland is keen to resume them on the Egyptian market.
Egypt is one of the largest economies in Africa, surpassed only by South Africa in terms of GDP. Egypt is also one of Poland's most important economic partners on the African continent. In 2025, the country was the fourth largest destination for Polish agri-food exports in Africa and one of the most important recipients of Polish apples. In 2025, Polish agri-food exports to Egypt amounted to €104 million.
Food Africa 2026: an opportunity to present Polish products
From December 7-10, 2026, agri-food companies interested in the Egyptian market will once again have the opportunity to participate in the national stand organized by the KOWR at the Food Africa trade fair in Cairo.
