RID

rid

As a result of signing the Agreement between the NCBR and General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA), a Joint Venture was established called RID (Road Innovation Development), consisting in supporting scientific research or development works in the field of road engineering. The purpose of the NCBR-GDDKiA Joint Undertaking is to improve the management efficiency of the planned, prepared, implemented and existing road network in Poland by 2024. In order to achieve the above-mentioned of the main objective, two specific objectives were adopted under RID, ie:

  • an increase in innovation in the field of road engineering and
  • an increase in the activity of scientific units in the implementation of R&D works aimed at the needs of road engineering.

The implementation of RID will contribute to the development of models and technologies useful in the design of pavement structures and methods of forecasting their durability, improving road safety, modernizing tools for assessing the efficiency and reliability of the road network, as well as creating new solutions ensuring effective methods of protecting the road environment and shaping land development. As a consequence, the implementation of solutions developed by Contractors selected in competitions will result in the availability of modern, more effective and economical models in the process of planning, preparation, construction and maintenance of road infrastructure. The road network under construction will be built and maintained based on transparent, modern and economical technologies and models.

Only entities registered and operating in the territory of the Republic of Poland may participate in the competition. Projects may consist of basic research, industrial research and experimental development work.

Thematic scope:

  • Technology of construction and renovation of roads and engineering facilities

Issue 1F: Diagnostics of prestressed and tension road engineering structures, including the selection of monitoring systems.

  • Preparation and implementation of road investments based on the most effective research methods

Issue 2C: The model method of road investment assessment at the technical-economic-environmental study stage, taking into account the principles of sustainable development throughout the road life cycle.

Issue 2D: Methods of conducting research and selection of geotechnical solutions for road investments.

  • Methodology of design and management of the road network

Issue 4G: Materials, construction products and technologies in road investments, meeting the requirements of the circular economy.

Issue 4H: Innovative methods of reducing road noise and the rules of their application

Issue 4I: Methods of obtaining and using electricity from renewable energy sources (RES) located in the road lane

The allocation for the 2nd call for proposals is PLN 11.6 million, including PLN 5.8 million from the National Center for Research and Development and PLN 5.8 million. from GDDKiA funds.
