Poland in South Africa

The objective of the Programme is to promote Polish language in the world by enabling foreigners interested in Polish language and Polish culture to study or carry out research projects in Poland. The program is addressed to students of Polish philology, Polish studies or Polish programs implemented among others as part of Slavic studies (in the field of Polish language, Polish culture and knowledge about Poland) as well as to scientists from foreign universities and scientific institutions.

A month after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, we encourage you to watch a touching film showing the profiles and feelings of refugees from Ukraine, women and children who have found refuge in Poland.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to South Africa, Andrzej Kanthak, met with the director of the elite Boys High School in Pretoria, Joanna Holliday, in order to discuss the possibilities of cooperation in the cultural field and the mutual benefits that may arise from bilateral relations. The ceremonial opening of the 13th edition of the Francophonie Festival took place on March 12, 2022 at the Jules Verne International French School in Pretoria. The Francophonie Festival has been organized in South Africa since 2009 on the initiative of the Embassy of France in South Africa and the Alliance Française in cooperation with the countries of the Francophone and Francophile communities - members of the International Organization of Francophones.

Ukraine is being torn apart by war. Poland is providing both humanitarian and military aid to Ukraine. A medical train for transporting the injured during the invasion of Russia is already operational. Poland has opened reception centres for refugees fleeing Russian aggression near the main border crossings between Poland and Ukraine, with the border itself 535 km long. The arriving persons can receive information, meals, rest and medical help.

Attention! From 25th February, 2022, under a special regulation, COVID-19 entry restrictions on Polish-Ukrainian border will be temporarily suspended due to military conflict in Ukraine. Tests and proofs of vaccination / convalescence will not be required and there will be no obligation to undergo quarantine.
