“High Five for Segregating” is the main slogan of the information and educational campaign launched by the Ministry of Environment, geared towards educating the society on proper ways to segregate waste. The campaign concerns the Unified Waste Segregation System and is addressed both to local governments, as well as homeowners. The campaign is also supported by an educational programme for children.

In connection with the tire waste fire in Alytus in Southern Lithuania, the representatives of the Polish Environmental Protection Inspectorate set out to support Lithuania, acting on orders of the Minister of Environment Henryk Kowalczyk.

Challenges and opportunities faced by all stakeholders with regards to the need to implement the so-called Single Use Plastics Directive (SUP) in the Polish legal system are the main subject of a consultation meeting held on 17 October 2019 at the Ministry of the Environment. Deputy Minister Sławomir Mazurek participated in the discussion with the representatives of the packaging industry.

Minister of Environment Henryk Kowalczyk, Deputy Ministers Małgorzata Golińska and Sławomir Mazurek, have paid their respects to the late prof. Jan Szyszko on October 16th. Jan Szyszko held the office of the Minister of Environment for three terms, he was a member of the Sejm in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth terms, a renowned scientist and a great nature enthusiast.

The Act on Maintaining Cleanliness and Order in Municipalities was the main topic of the second day of the POL-ECO SYSTEM trade show in Poznań. The debate on the key changes geared towards improving the effectiveness of the waste management system was attended by the Minister of Environment Henryk Kowalczyk, as well as Vice-Minister of Environment Sławomir Mazurek.

Professor Jan Szyszko – forester, scientist, three-time Minister of Environment and Member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland – has passed away at the age of 75.

“The main theme of this year's fair - Sustainable waste management – for people, health and the environment - is perfectly in line with the measures we have implemented in order to improve environmental quality, including waste management” - said Minister Henryk Kowalczyk, opening the POL-ECO SYSTEM Trade Fair in Poznań on 9 October.

A perspective of a climate-neutral economy, a circular economy and preparations for the COP25 Climate Change Conference were the main topics of the meeting held by environment and climate ministers from the European Union (EU) member states. Sławomir Mazurek, Deputy Minister of Environment, participated in the meeting held on 4 October 2019 in Luxembourg.

The discussions held during the two-day National Economic Summit in Siedlce focused primarily on environmental issues regarding improving the quality of air, investments in renewable energy sources or national energy security. The Minister of Environment Henryk Kowalczyk attended the event with Deputy Ministers Piotr Dziadzio and Sławomir Mazurek.

The challenges faced by the European Union and its Member States, including air quality and climate neutrality, were the main topics of the conversation between the Minister of Environment Henryk Kowalczyk and the Chairman of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) of the European Parliament, Pascal Canfin. The meeting was held on the 27 September 2019 at the Ministry of Environment.
