Sustainable development and fair transformation on the example of the City of Katowice

The modern challenge of European metropolises is the ability to combine competitiveness and sustainable development. The Katowice City is post-industrial city with rich industrial heritage. The city after successful heavy industry restructuring became the fifth biggest and modern business services sector in Poland. In our presentation we’re going to elaborate the few revitalizations projects which have changed the character of the city and share new ideas with the auditorium.

Functional urban areas cooperation as a tool to mitigate urban sprawl

During this session we will explore the links between urban sprawl and functional urban areas (FUA) cooperation. We will look into good practices from across Europe on how cooperation between neighboring municipalities helps to mitigate the effects of sprawl. The focus will be on sustainable land use, but also other benefits of FUA cooperation will be discussed. We will look into recommendations prepared by the Urban Agenda for the European Union regarding the functional urban areas cooperation (coordinated by Poland) and the session will be an opportunity to discuss and share your own experiences on this topic.

Drones for Cities - Central European Drone Demonstrator(CEDD)

Poland is one of global leader in air traffic management for drones (UTM) and implementing drones into the ecosystem. In 2018 the CEDD initiative established by the GZM Metropolis, the CAA (ULC) and PANSA - Polish ANSP, was launched integrating different stakeholder around drone powered project and to work out the infrastructure for Drone Traffic Management in the cities. First results are very promising and ready to present now.
