Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate

The project is the result of cooperation between the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate and the National Chamber of Paramedics, and the initiative is under the patronage of the Supreme Pharmaceutical Chamber. The press conference inaugurating the “Lista Na Ratunek” project was held at the headquarters of the Regional Pharmaceutical Chamber in Warsaw.

The event was attended by Chief Pharmaceutical Inspector Łukasz Pietrzak, President of the Warsaw Regional Pharmaceutical Council Marian Witkowski, Vice-President of the National Council of Paramedics Michał Winter, Director of the CPI’s Internal Control and Compliance Department Mateusz Żuber and Director of the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspector’s Office Olga Sierpniowska, who moderated the discussion. Representatives of regional pharmaceutical chambers and the Office of the Patient Rights Ombudsman also took part in the meeting.

Modern medicine offers an increasing range of treatment options used by millions of patients. However, the increasingly common phenomenon of polypharmacy makes it difficult for patients to remember the names of all the medicines they take, their doses and how to take them. The lack of complete and up-to-date information on pharmacotherapy poses a challenge both during routine visits to a pharmacy or doctor and in emergencies.

For emergency medical teams, information about the medicines taken by a patient – especially those affecting blood clotting or the cardiovascular system – may be important when making clinical decisions. From the perspective of pharmaceutical care, this information is essential for identifying potential drug interactions and other medication-related problems.

The response to these challenges is “Lista Na Ratunek” – a simple document containing key information about the patient’s health and treatment that is worth keeping with you at all times. The document includes space for listing the medicines taken, their doses, chronic conditions, allergies and the contact details of a person to be notified in an emergency.

The launch event brought together representatives of the media and groups working to protect the health of the public. The project was discussed from the perspective of the professional groups and institutions that support patients and participate in the healthcare system on a daily basis:

• pharmacists, for whom complete information about a patient’s pharmacotherapy is the basis for providing safe advice and pharmaceutical services;
• paramedics, who highlighted the importance of rapid access to treatment information during emergency responses;
• representatives of institutions responsible for health security, who highlighted the role of health education and preparing the public for emergencies and crises.

The Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate encourages patients to update their “Lista Na Ratunek” regularly and keep it in a place that is easily accessible both to them and to anyone providing assistance. This may be particularly important for older people, people with chronic conditions and those taking multiple medicines at the same time.

This simple step may help healthcare professionals access key information about a patient’s treatment and facilitate the provision of assistance in emergencies and crises.
