Ukrainian prescriptions - Set of rules for issuing prescriptions in Ukraine
04.04.2025
Since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Ukrainian prescriptions have increasingly appeared in Polish pharmacies. The Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate reminds that the pharmacy is obliged to fulfill a prescription issued in a country outside the European Union or EFTA. Such a prescription can only contain medicines with the Rp availability category. It is also not possible to dispense psychotropic and narcotic drugs on it.
The scope of data that should be included in such a prescription is described in § 15 of the Regulation of the Minister of Health of December 23, 2021:
- A prescription issued in a country other than a Member State of the European Union or a Member State of the European Free Trade Agreement (EFTA) - a party to the agreement on the European Economic Area, may be fulfilled if it contains the following data:
- the patient's first name or names and surname;
- the patient's address;
- the common (international) name or trade name;
- the form;
- the strength;
- the quantity;
- the date of issue of the prescription;
- the data of the person issuing the prescription specified in Article 96a section 1 point 3 letters a, b and d of the Pharmaceutical Law in the form of a print or stamp and the handwritten signature of the person issuing the prescription; (this refers to the telephone number of the person who issued the prescription or the e-mail address of that person)
- The prescription referred to in paragraph 1 shall be filled for full payment. Other principles for filling such a prescription result from Article 96a of the Pharmaceutical Law and the aforementioned regulation on prescriptions.
