Summary of healthcare activities under the Polish Presidency

On July 3, 2025, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health, the healthcare activities undertaken during the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union were reviewed. The event was attended by the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspector Łukasz Pietrzak.

The Polish Presidency of the EU Council was concluded by the Minister of Health, Izabela Leszczyna, and representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Office for Registration of Medicinal Products, Medical Devices and Biocidal Products, the Office for Chemical Substances, the National Cancer Institute, and the National Centre for Counteracting Addictions.

Half a year of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council was the period during which the European Commission presented the draft of the Critical Medicines Act. It aims to increase the production of key medicines and active substances in the territory of the European Union, while reducing dependence on imports.

The European Union countries, led by the Polish Presidency, developed a common position on the reform of pharmaceutical law, with the aim of providing faster access to effective therapies and a stronger position of European manufacturers.

– Patients who will have access to medicines and innovations are the greatest beneficiaries of this package – said Łukasz Pietrzak regarding the negotiated pharmaceutical package. – I am proud of our presidency – summed up the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspector.

An important element of the Polish Presidency was the 37th international meeting of the Working Group on Counterfeit Medicinal Products (WGEO) operating at the HMA, hosted by the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspectorate. The event served to exchange knowledge, experience, and strengthen cooperation between foreign organizations and key Polish institutions, ensuring the safety of medicines for patients in Poland.

During the Polish Presidency, the EU Council also adopted conclusions on the promotion and protection of children's and adolescents' mental health in the digital era. Particular attention was paid to the prevention of cancer, the health of children and adolescents, health education, and strategies to reduce risk factors – such as addictions, obesity, and low physical activity.
