Changes for carers of disabled people

16.06.2016

The amendment to the Act on child benefits and to the Act on determination and payment of carer's allowance adopted by the Senate today assumes greater support for carers who care for more than one disabled person in the family.

This amendment is the execution of the Constitutional Tribunal's judgement of 18 November 2014.

At present, people who care for more than one disabled person in the family can receive only one care benefit (the assistance allowance – PLN 1300, the special care allowance – PLN 520, the carer's allowance – PLN 520), even if they both have to resign from work. After the change, each of them will be able to receive benefits when he or she resigns (or does not take up work).
