4.4 million students with “Good Start” support

18.02.2019

The announced by the Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki and activated in the previous year “Good Start” programme proved to be a hit. Almost all authorised persons benefited therefrom. The benefit – PLN 300 on school supplies – reached 4.4 million of students in total.

Dobry Start

The “Good Start” programme constitutes the implementation of one of the points of the last year’s declaration of the Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, so-called: Morawiecki Five. It is PLN 300 on school supplies for each learning child – irrespectively of the family incomes. It is granted once a year to children starting the school year until 20 years of age, and in the case of the children with disabilities learning at a school – until 24 years of age.

In 2018, 4.4 million students used the benefit. Those are almost all of the authorised persons. Expenditures on benefits and service thereof amounted to approx. PLN 1.4 billion. The smallest number of granted benefits was noted in Krynica Morska – 113, and the largest number in Warsaw – 176,153.

– This is undoubtedly a significant help for families in the period of increased expenses. An average cost of school supplies per one child amounts to almost PLN 700, in case of two children the cost exceeds PLN 1,200. When there are more children, the amount becomes really large. The “Good Start” programme was created to unburden families. Such a large interest shows the best that it was a step expected by the society – says the Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy, Elżbieta Rafalska. As she adds, the programme will be continued in the following years.

The benefit “Good Start” was granted upon application. - It could have been applied for by parents, legal carers, foster parents, persons running a family orphanage or a director of educational-care centres – reminds the Head of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy. Applications were accepted online by the same institutions currently executing the benefit within the “Family 500+” programme. It could have been submitted from 1 July to 30 November. What is important, the benefit “Good Start” is exempt from tax and is not subject to enforcement or inclusion in the income while determining the right to other benefits.
