Nearly PLN 75 million for the programme "Family assistant and foster care coordinator"

29.08.2019

We now know the results of the competition launched under the framework of the programme for supporting the employment of family assistants and foster care coordinators. The Ministry will dedicate nearly PLN 75 million for that purpose.

The programme is an important element of the government's family policy. It aims to strengthen the network of family assistants employed in municipalities to work with families experiencing difficulties in providing care for and raising children. The programme also aids the development of a network of family foster care coordinators employed in districts in order to provide support to foster families and family orphanages.
A preference for employing specialists under employment contracts was introduced into the programme in 2017. It is the implementation of the requests issued by the family assistants themselves, as well as an incentive for the municipalities. The grants are awarded with a priority given to local governments which employ a family assistant or coordinator on the basis of an employment contract.

That approach brings a measurable effect. In 2018, a total of 3 920 family assistants were employed, out of which 85% were employed on the basis of employment contracts (i.e. an increase of 3 percentage points in relation to the previous year) and 15% under service contracts.
The amount of co-financing from the state budget to the salary in the case of an employment contract amounts to 60% of the total gross salary of an assistant or coordinator, while the amount of co-financing shall not exceed PLN 1900. In the case of a civil contract, the amount of state co-financing in the contract amounts to 27% of total remuneration and up to PLN 800.
This year, almost PLN 75 million has been allocated for the programme, including:

  • PLN 49,271,262, which will make it possible to employ 3,577 family assistants, including 3,134 on the basis of employment contracts (88%);
  • PLN 25,724,605 for employing foster care coordinators, which will allow to employ 1,653 foster care coordinators, including 1,525 on the basis of employment contracts (92%).
