Poles’ positively about the labour market

09.04.2019

Over half of Poles assess the current situation in the labour market in Poland well or very well, as results from the April report of the Public Opinion Research Center. In comparison, in 2014 only every fifth respondent was of such an opinion. “Currently, opinions in this scope are the best in the history” – we read in the study.

In March this year 58 percent of respondents talked well of the national labour market. This is an increase by 5 percentage points in comparison with March 2018. What is interesting, in 2014, only 20 percent of the respondents were of such an opinion, as results from the Public Opinion Research Center’s report “Situation in the labour market in Poles’ assessments and experiences”.

“A percentage of negative opinions on the labour market in Poland decreased in a year from 16 percent to 11 percent, whereas, only few (1 percent) remain decidedly critical. More or less one fifth of respondents (21 percent, a drop by 2 percentage points) believe that the situation in the national labour market is average (neither good, nor bad)” – we read in the report.

As underlined by the Public Opinion Research Center, currently opinions in this scope are the best in the history, which corresponds with the lowest registered unemployment rate noted by the Statistics Poland after 1990. In February this year, it amounted to 6.1 percent and was over two times lower than 6 years ago (14.4 percent). The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy’s estimates indicate that in March it dropped to 5.9 percent.

– We are very pleased with these reports. They prove that finally, we observe an employee-oriented market in Poland. A systematic increase in satisfaction in this scope shows that we are going in the right direction – assesses the Minister, Elżbieta Rafalska.

And how, in Poles’ opinion, will the labour market look like in the nearest 12 months? Only 7 percent of the respondents forecasts negative changes in this scope and no one expects a radical deterioration. Almost a half, that is, 48 percent of respondents believe that in a year the situation in the labour market will not change and 31 percent forecast an improvement.

What is interesting, three quarters (75 percent) of Poles assess their professional situation as more or less stable, and slightly over one fifth (22 percent) are afraid of losing a job. Unemployed persons and persons searching for a job can be currently met in almost every eighth family (12 percent) – as results from obtained declarations.

– Work constitutes a significant part of our everyday lives and a sense of stability and certainty of employment translates into the quality of life of the whole family. I am pleased that this sense of stability is growing every year - says the Minister, Elżbieta Rafalska.
